DEFINING WHAT TRUTH IS

It is a great privilege to be here tonight to share with you my shikini knowledge. I celebrate God in the life of my Oga and I am grateful for the privilege he gave me through God’s grace to speak here tonight. So, straight to the point, (and I’ll try not to take too much of our time), I’ll be speaking on the topic “Defining what TRUTH is“.

Abba, we pray, as we learn at Your ancient feet, that the eyes of our understanding are opened to see the truth in the light of Your word.
Amen.

So, first things first, since tonight is all about “defining“, what then is the truth? In simple terms, I’ll say the truth is that which conforms to accurate and logical reality. It is that which you can prove to be solid in premise or physique; that which you can hold to be firm in reason and that which you can find explanations for, in its different workings.

The truth, most times, must conform to our six senses (sound, taste, feeling, smell, sight and the sixth being the sense of rational reasoning). However, the truth, really, is more than a “WHAT”. The truth is a “WHO”. John 1:14 & 17 says:

[14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
[17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

The above verses show that the Truth is no other person but the WORD made flesh, which is Jesus Christ. Moreso, John 4:23-24 also say:

[23] But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
[24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Now, have you ever wondered why Jesus said He is the way to the way?
Or have you ever thought of the reason why most of our prayers start with “Father in the name of Jesus…”
The reason is because Jesus is the only portal through which God can be communed with, hence the rending of that ancient curtain at the temple at the event of His death. God is the Father of Lights. There are no shadows in Him. The devil is the opposite – the Bible calls him the father of lies.

Therefore, the only way we can meet God halfway is to abide in the Eternal seed He fathered which is Jesus Christ, the truth. Now, having known WHO the Truth is, there is need to know what the Truth does. First and Foremost, the Truth sanctifies.
John 17:17 says
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Here is Jesus Christ praying to the Father to make holy all His beloved.
The funny thing here is that this prayer, which was said ever before He died on the cross, was actually a prophecy into what WAS, IS and IS TO COME.
Who is the Truth? Jesus
Who is the Word of God? Jesus

What does this tell us?
That the blameless life He lived while on earth was being lived to SANCTIFY the sons of men, and that the death He was to suffer on the cross was the only was through which this sanctification exchange could be made.

So, in layman’s terms, the prayer Jesus was really praying was:
Abba, make these guys holy by transferring my holiness to them through the death I’m soon to experience on that cross…
Another thing the Truth does is that it guides unto the (what)-truth of God’s knowledge.

Even though the Truth is really a “WHO”, we should not neglect the fact that there are What-Truths too. And the What-Truth in context here is the truth of WHO God is and the truth of all He has, is and will do.

John 16:13 confirms this by saying:
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Truth, Jesus. And its main work, apart from that of comforting, is to reveal to us previously unknown things.

The Holy Spirit teaches us continually WHO God is and how we can dwell in His light, and also how we can make that light shine in this dark world.
The Truth does so many things, but the last thing I am going to profess that He does is that it sets free.

John 8:32 says “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Lies are prisons that ties the soul to one place, hence the devils love of lies. The devil is the originator of bondage and his main weapons are his lies.
However, the Truth brings light to dispel darkness. It vanquishes lies and then breaks asunder the bondage of Satan.

The Bible confirms this when it says that liberty exists where God’s Spirit is. There can be no chains where God’s Spirit dwells. Bad situations are lies that the devil casts to take our eyes off God.
One salient truth is that when we focus on our pains, we take our eyes off God and in that precarious state, it is really easy to get lost and move away from the protection of His sacrifice. Bad situations are illusions the devil projects to make us think less of the mighty power of God to redeem. And only one thing can set us free from these lies – The Truth, Jesus Christ. And so, to round this up, I’ll say this – You can’t define WHAT the Truth is unless you reveal WHO the truth is. And this is why as Christian Writers, we have to always make sure Jesus and the truth about Him is glorified in our works. If your work does not do any of the above functions of the TRUTH, then you haven’t defined what the truth is.
There should be something that sets us apart from secular writers – and that is the Revelation of WHO Jesus is in the contents that come from us. It is high time Scribes of the Kingdom rose up to help in expelling the darkness of the world through the words that come from the quills we hold.

We would be failing in our duties as Children of God and in the utilising of the literary talents He gave us if we refuse to use them to propagate His love to the world.

Writers aren’t called powerful for no reason. Writers are know to control a substantial portion of people’s minds. The pen is not said to be mightier than the sword for no reason – the sword can only kill; words have the abilities to make or mar worlds.

So, why don’t we use this power to bring the world to its knees before the Lordship of Jesus? Personally, I have made a pact with God, that the only contents that will come from me will not be edify people and tell them in one way or the other about the love of Jesus.
Everyone here needs to make that kind of covenant with God. God needs laborers in all industries of the world. I trust the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of TRUTH, to lead and guide everyone of us in what to do and how to go about Defining WHO the TRUTH is.

Thank you, Abba, for the grace to share and learn at Your feet. We do not take it for granted.
Give us strength to abide in Your will and to do only the things that make You known….. Amen.

I’ll take questions now, if there are any. And I’m sorry about contextual or grammatical errors I might have made in the course of my little speech. They were due to the rush of the writing.

[8/16, 9:36 PM] O G: If I say then that something is true, does that make it the truth?

[8/16, 10:02 PM] Ejike: Sir, I’m really happy I didn’t miss this tonight.

Sometimes ago, I was meditating on Psalms 91. And at the verse where it says “His truth shall be your shield and buckler…” the spirit of God began to broaden my mind on the Truth as used there, both as a Personality and a phenomenon, I also saw the thin line difference between true and truth. As a result, I do not really have questions tonight, all the teachings tonight have confirmed my meditation. I just want to testify. I was blessed, this is Zion.

[8/16, 10:39 PM] Guest Speaker: Sorry I replied late. Went for a prayer meeting.
Well, that’s relative to you. It depends on what YOU define as the truth. There is the universal definition of truth and there are personal perspectives on truths too.

What you call truth, if it does not conform to what the universe recognises as truth, might not be generally accepted as truth. So, Bro, that you say something is true might only be true according to the way only you see it.

[8/16, 10:46 PM] Versatile Saint: In addition whatever is True is “a Truth” to someone or something…. But Be it True or a Truth it is a conformation to a Reality… So the Crux of discourse is: What is your “Reality“…???

Because what is Truth to you is what conforms to your Reality. So if what you hold as your Reality is JESUS… Anything that does not conform to Him, would not be a Truth or seen by you as True.

It is true that people die of Cancer, but when your Reality is not the potency of the sickness; cancer but the healing power of Christ. Then the statement or fact that people die of Cancer would to you not be true.

[8/16, 10:48 PM] O G: Thanks the last paragraph helped my understanding.

[8/16, 10:48 PM] Versatile Saint: Bishop Oyedepo can back one day and found mama Faith crying, she said she had a miscarriage because she saw blood… Papa asked: “when you saw blood did you see a baby’s hand , finger or legs?” She said no. He said, you don’t have a miscarriage…

Things that are true or that appears as truth are such if they confirm only to what you hold as your Reality.

[8/16, 10:49 PM] O G: Whatever is true is a truth but doesn’t make it “The Truth”. I saw this when Paul discerned and cast out the demon in the girl that said. These are the servants of God who show you the way of salvation..what she spoke was true however according to Paul it wasn’t cos the revelation didn’t come from the truth.

[8/16, 10:55 PM] Ejike: I believe there is more… there’s more. God is putting more in the hearts of people here ..more than whatsapp can contain. I can feel It personally. He’s writing books.
God bless you all.

[8/16, 10:55 PM] O G: Mr Emmanuel thank you for finding the time to share with us and to the team who put this together, may the lord strengthen you to keep up the work.

I really appreciate today’s teaching. God bless you-@⁨Versatile Saint⁩ and @⁨Veritas⁩ .
